How to type Spanish accents on iPhone and Android
Press and hold a letter on the on-screen keyboard and slide to the accented version: hold n for ñ, a vowel for á, é, í, ó, ú or ü, and ? or ! for ¿ and ¡. If you write in Spanish every day, add a Spanish keyboard in your settings to get a dedicated ñ key and Spanish autocorrect.
When Spanish words need an accent
The written accent marks the stressed syllable when it breaks the usual pattern: words ending in a vowel, n or s are normally stressed on the second-to-last syllable (casa, hablan), so canción and café need an accent. It also separates pairs of words like si / sí, tu / tú and el / él, and it appears on every question word: ¿qué?, ¿cómo?, ¿dónde?

Does a missing accent change the meaning of a Spanish word?
Yes, often. "Si" means if, while "sí" means yes; "tu" is your, while "tú" is you; "hablo" is I speak, while "habló" is he spoke. And "año" (year) without the tilde becomes a very different word.
